Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management

The Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management is designed for working healthcare professionals who want to enhance their proficiency and breadth of knowledge in the healthcare management field. The objective of this graduate certificate is to provide individuals, who do not wish to pursue the Healthcare MBA, with a basic understanding of the context, management and reimbursement issues for health care organizations. It prepares students for a career in a healthcare environment by providing additional management skills and knowledge of the current factors affecting the healthcare delivery system. The certificate consists of five graduate classes.

Program Format

Classes are structured into “blocks” or 8-week sessions, with each block consisting of one course:

MAN 6096 – Fundamentals of the U.S. Healthcare System
MAN 6095 – Management of Healthcare Organizations in the 21st Century
HSA 6176 – Financing and Reimbursement of Health Systems
HSA 6197 – Design and Management of Health Information Systems
HSA 6759 – Quality Assessment and Outcome in Health Care

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management program, prospective students must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum 3.0 GPA in upper-level undergraduate coursework.

For applicants not currently enrolled at FIU, please complete the online application at:http://gradschool.fiu.edu/admissions.html  under Graduate Certificate Programs. SelectCertificate from the degree level drop-down menu (on the Academic Information page of the online application form) and Healthcare Management from the “major” drop-down menu listing all FIU certificate programs.

  • Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and/or universities.  Transcripts must be sent directly to the address noted above by all formerly attended institutions in a sealed envelope.
  • Official proof of degree: a copy of the original diploma is required if the degree is not posted on the official transcripts.

Application Deadline

The Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management starts in the Fall 2012 semester. Deadline for applications is July 16, 2012.

Fees

Tuition for the Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Program for the 2012-2013 year is $17,900.

Financial Aid

The Graduate Certificate is currently eligible for financial aid from the US Department of Education IF the student is currently enrolled in and pursuing a graduate degree program.
