Admission Requirements
The College admits a new class of doctoral students every other year during the Fall semester.
Complete applications must be received by March 1. Acceptance decisions typically will be made in April, for admission in the Fall semester.
Applicants are considered once all the required documents have been received.
All qualified students are encouraged to apply to the program, regardless of their sex, age, race, color, creed, handicap, marital status, or national or ethnic origin. Applications are accepted from prospective students with a broad variety of educational backgrounds, including areas like business, liberal arts, and the sciences. Those students selected for the Ph.D. program must demonstrate strong evidence of ability, scholarly interest, and success.
Applicants should submit the following to: Florida International University, Chapman Graduate School of Business, Office of Admissions - CBC 201, 11200 S.W. 8th Street, Miami, Florida 33199-0001.
- A completed application form and processing fee.
- Three letters of recommendation.
- Official transcripts from all institutions in which the applicant has completed any undergraduate and graduate course work. Applicants are expected to have at least a GPA in their coursework.
- A report from the Educational Testing Service giving the applicant’s score on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Exam (GRE). Entering students are expected to score a minimum of 570 on the GMAT or 1120 (combined verbal and quantitative) on the GRE.
- A formal statement of purpose for seeking the doctoral degree and specific reasons for applying to Florida International University.
- A curriculum vitae.
- International graduate student applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit a score for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). A total score of 80 on the iBT TOEFL or 6.5 overall on the IELTS is required. Such applicants also should review the “General Admission Requirements for Foreign Students” in the “Admission” section of this catalog.
Please remember to select the program code "BADM10PHD" from the pull-down menu listing all FIU graduate programs in the online admission form. Selecting an erroneous program code may jeopardize timely admission.
Tuition
Tuition and fees usually change each academic year. Tuition and fees are set by the State of Florida at the beginning of the fall semester for the coming academic year. The following was the tuition per credit hour for the 2008-2009 academic year:

Florida Resident Graduate, Thesis or Dissertation $286.44

Non-Florida Resident Graduate, Thesis or Dissertation $790.51
In addition, you are required to pay the various student fees required by the university (athletic, health and parking) which total approximately $169.59 per semester.
If you are studying on a student visa, you also must purchase a health insurance policy. The current cost for this is $1,794 per year.
