History
We opened our doors when Florida International University did—in 1972. The graduate school was named formally in 2001 as the Chapman Graduate School of Business and the undergraduate school was named officially in 2004 as the Landon Undergraduate School of Business.

Faculty
Our faculty of 100+ scholars and business leaders, representing 38 nationalities, includes internationally known experts in international business, information technology strategy, operations research, knowledge management, e-business, entrepreneurship, real estate, international banking and trade, consumer marketing, customer relationship management, global marketing, and corporate responsibility. They offer a wealth of research and teaching experience and practical business savvy.

Alumni
A fifth of our more than 25,000 alumni own their own businesses. Some 70 percent work in Florida, in organizations that collectively represent a major part of the state's economy, and a large number work for international or multinational firms.

AACSB Accreditation
The College of Business Administration and the School of Accounting are accredited by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. This accreditation was reaffirmed by a peer review team in 2008. Click here to see the full report.

  • U.S. News & World Report’s “America's Best Colleges” (2005-2009)ranks our undergraduate international business programs among the 15 best in the nation, three times in the top 10. In 2009, we were ranked #11.

  • The business school earned a spot in BusinessWeek’s “2009 Ranking of Top Undergraduate Business Programs,” marking its second appearance in the list in the last three years. This year, we were ranked #15 for public two-year programs in the country, #55 among all public schools, and #98 overall, ahead of schools such as Temple University (Fox) and Georgia State University (Robinson). In addition, in BusinessWeek’s latest rankings of undergraduate business specialties, released online, the College of Business Administration ranked in the top 20 in the nation in two areas: 9th in operations management and 18th in accounting.
  • Hispanic Business has consistently placed us among the top 10 business schools for Hispanics. In 2008, we were ranked #8.

  • U.S. News & World Report’s “America's Best Graduate Schools” (2008) lists our Chapman School among the top 25 business schools in the United States for excellence in international business.

  • For the fourth time in a row (2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008), BusinessWeek has included the Chapman Graduate School of Business in its prestigious ranking. In the current ranking, we are among the top 72 graduate schools in the United States and in the top 33 among public business schools.

  • Hispanic Business (since 1998) and Hispanic Trends (since 2003) have placed us among the top 25 business schools for Hispanics and most recently in the top 10.

  • AméricaEconomía ranks us among the top international business schools in the world for Latin Américan business students.

Doctor of Philosophy
Our doctoral students earn their PhD with a concentration in one of the following areas: accounting, finance, management information systems or international management.

Executive and Professional Education
For working professionals, we offer a range of executive and professional education (non-degree) programs in accounting and finance, corporate strategy, general management, human resource management, leadership, marketing, professional development, project management, sales and negotiation, and real estate—to cite only a few. Seminars, customized programs, and programs in Spanish are also available.

Instructional Delivery
We offer instruction on site in traditional or web-assisted formats. We also offer fully online courses and programs, and courses that blend on site and online teaching in various ways.

We have five centers that focus research, teaching and service around specialized interests:

Campuses
We're based in Modesto A. Maidique Campus in southwest Miami adjacent to the intersection of Tamiami Trail (S.W. 8th Street) and the Florida Turnpike. We also offer programs in the waterfront Biscayne Bay Campus in North Miami, our Broward-FIU Pembroke Pines Center in southwest Broward County, and at our Downtown Center in Miami.

Our Miami location lets students enjoy the international, urban, and ethnic richness of the area's diverse culture. It also places us in a major center of technology, finance and international commerce, travel and tourism, international banking and real estate, and a growing cable television and entertainment industry.

Executive Dean
Our executive dean is Joyce J. Elam, PhD, who also is James L. Knight Professor of Management Information Systems. Her publications on the strategic uses of information technology, the management of information services, and the use of information technology to support decision-making have appeared in such journals as Decision Sciences, Decision Support Systems, Information Systems Research, Operations Research and MISQ. She previously was associate professor at the University of Texas and assistant professor at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Elam received both her PhD in operations research (1977) and her BA in mathematics (1970) from the University of Texas and was a Marvin Bower Fellow at the Harvard Business School in 1987-88.
