PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Before joining FIU, Dr. Butchey worked as a Financial Services Stock Research Analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston in their Toronto offices. Prior to this, she was a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch in Toronto. Her professional qualifications include being a Registered Representative, licensed to sell securities in Canada.

Dr. Butchey has won numerous accolades in teaching. She is a double recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award (2002, 2007) from Florida International University. Her quality of teaching has also been validated from a highly regarded external organization with the receipt of the "2006 Faculty Teaching Excellence Award" from The International Society of Business Disciplines (ISOBD).

Dr. Butchey has reviewed several textbooks in finance and presented at numerous finance, global business and business education conferences. Her research has been most recently published in the Journal of Global Business and the Journal for the Academy of Business Education. She has presented in a “Top Ten Percent Session” at the 2006 Annual Meeting of the Financial Management Association in Salt Lake City and the 2006 Annual Meeting of the European Financial Management Association in Madrid, Spain. Her research in finance focuses on behavioral finance, the psychology of financial markets, a rapidly expanding segment of the finance literature. Her pedagogical research has been presented at AACSB conferences as well as pre-eminent Finance conferences.

Dr. Butchey is also a double recipient of the "Award for Outstanding Service” in both 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 from the College of Business at Florida International University. She is also involved in numerous community outreach projects. A recent initiative in her online Financial Markets and Institutions class is a student group project promoting financial literacy among recent immigrants and newcomers to South Florida through various community centers, libraries and religious organizations. She is also leading the College’s efforts to enhance Teaching Quality, Student Learning and the Assessment of Learning through the Office for Academic Advancement.
