Alumni

Alumni interested in employment opportunities for either internships and/or permanent employment must be registered with Career Management Services’ CBA Career Link Database. If you would like to attend any other FIU Career events, you also must be familiar with the procedures established by the centralized Career Services office.

Career Management Services can assist you in gaining the knowledge, skills and savvy to be a competitive force in today's challenging job market through a broad range of services, resources, and workshops to help you with career development, job searches, and reaching your short and long-term career goals. To take full advantage of our services, you must register first.

How to Register with CMS Career Management Services

Click on CBA Career Link and use the following logon info:

Username = Panther ID              
Password = Panther ID

If you do not know your Panther ID, go to http://sis.fiu.edu and click on the "Get your Panther ID and password" link.

If you are not able to log into CBA Career Link using your Panther ID as both the user name and password, contact our office at 305-348-7396 or via email at cbacareers@fiu.edu and provide your Panther ID number to be added into the database.

		Career Advising and Résumé Review We offer one-on-one career advising sessions to discuss your career goals and objectives and how to attain them.  Our staff is available to review and assist you with your Résumé and to help you with your career development plan in order for you to be prepared and competitive in today’s job market. Our office reserves the right to counsel you on your Résumé before posting it in the database system or sending it to an employer for interview consideration.  This will ensure that you project a positive image competing with other CBA students from other ranked business schools throughout the United States. Résumés uploaded into CBA Career Link are reviewed and critiqued in the order received by our Career Management Services staff.  This may take up to 3 business days, and possibly longer during peak times.  Résumés should be uploaded into CBA Career Link at least 1 week prior  to any special event, which includes on campus interviews and career fairs.  Submit your Résumé early to allow for any necessary revisions and avoid missing your application deadline. If you fail to correct your Résumé, you may not have it posted in the database system and/or sent to employers from our office. Make sure to attend a Résumé Development and Résumé Editing workshop, come to our Résumé Walk-In sessions for Undergraduates and F-1 students, or schedule an appointment with one of our advisors if you need assistance.
		Workshops We offer career-related workshops to increase your knowledge of career planning and focus on the skills necessary to strengthen your marketability and competitiveness. Our workshops and events develop your skills in areas such as interviewing, Résumé and cover letter writing, networking, and business etiquette. We also coordinate speakers to expand your knowledge about specific industries and functions.
		On-campus Interviews The College of Business attracts employers wanting to conduct on-campus interviews. Recruiting on campus is an efficient and effective way for employers to hire for permanent positions and internships.
		Company Information Sessions Many companies visit the campus prior to conducting on-campus interviews to teach students about the company's objectives and employment opportunities. These presentations provide an opportunity for students to research firms and network with recruiters.
		Career Events Career Fairs and career events are opportunities for students and companies to interact, giving students a chance to meet with company recruiters and talk about employment opportunities.  The university annually hosts two career fairs and a number of career events in which companies can network informally with students. Before you attend any career fair, make sure you are prepared. Our general tips for working a job fair will teach you how to prepare for the event how to dress professionally how to make a good impression what to “do” and “not do”
		Career Development Tools and Resources Available Career Resource Library is available to help you with your career planning and job search process. Here you will find magazines, industry guides, and books on such topics as interviewing skills, Résumés & cover letters, and choosing the right career path.  Also in the library are pamphlets on specific companies to assist you with your research.  Materials are not to be checked out; they are strictly for your use within the library. There are two computers available for your career-related research on the internet.  These computers are also equipped with webcams so that you can use Interview Stream, a software program that allows you to participate in a mock interview. You must first be registered in our Career Services database, and you will need your Panther ID or a valid Driver’s License to check out a headphone/microphone set from one of our staff as this is needed to use the program. CareerBeam helps you tap into the hidden market of jobs using Job Trigger technology, which continually scans more than 20,000 business sources in 150+ categories of “job trigger events” which indicate an actual job posting or opportunity. This tool produces   more than 25,000 new job triggers every day. CareerBeam continuously updates company information, thereby giving you the most current data available. WetFeet profiles companies, careers, industries, and cities and has a vast library of career-advice articles providing you a unique perspective on how to find the right career, industry, company, and job. The Vault offers information about industries, careers, employers and articles about important career topics such as work/life balance, industry advice, and job searches. Going Global is the site for international online job and internship listings, career guides, and employer directories.  This research tool contains more than 10,000 resources for finding employment at home and abroad. Interview Stream take interviewing to the next level by stopping into the Career Management Services Library or sign up ahead of time to use this interactive online video-based practice interviewing tool.  If you have a webcam, you can even conduct a mock interview right now!  Career TV is also available. The Riley Guide  provides you with a link to dozens of the best general and specialty sites pertaining to job search topics and resources, such as how to prepare cover letters, Résumés, network, ace the interview and negotiate.
		Undergraduate Internship Information for Students
		Managing Your Career Careful management of your career is absolutely essential to reaching your career goals. There are five crucial steps you should take to explore your options, get focused, and move towards reaching these goals. Step 1.   Self assessment—establish decision-making criteria: skills, values, interests, and personality Step 2.   Exploration of options—Increase your knowledge about the career options Step 3.   Focusing and goal setting—identify your focus from your exploration exercise. Name your target industry and specific companies within that industry. Step 4.   Self-marketing for the job search—develop and implement a career plan and search strategy. Create a great Résumé. Sharpen your interviewing skills. Build a network of contacts. Follow up and follow through. Be creative and take initiative. Step 5.   Career management—Continue to build skills and experience that will prepare you for any seen or unforeseen changes in your career.
