FIU's course, Financial Plans and Budgets, focuses on the all-important relationship between financial goal-setting and the budgeting process. Armed with this knowledge, participants are better equipped to build successful businesses—their own or their employer's.
This one-day course offers students a practical grounding in financial reporting, analysis, and decision-making that is relevant to any management function. Participants gain a working knowledge of key financial principles, processes and terminology essential to develop forecasts and use budgets to control and measure results.

This course provides a solid foundation in the basic financial and budget processes that are used for business planning, measurement and control. You will learn how to read and comprehend key financial statements including income statements and balance sheets and to create budgets that align with organizational financial goals and plans.
The course includes a comprehensive overview of financial short- and long-term financial planning, and budgeting as well as working capital management and Return-on-Investment measures.

Our focus is on preparing you to make informed financial decisions concerning how to allocate resources and maximize returns on equity and investment. We present and discuss the type of real-world issues and trade-offs that managers confront when attempting to assess potential risk, balance budgets, and plan for growth.
Specifically, you will gain the ability to:
- plan and support financial decisions and funding choices related to investment and growth
- dissect financial reports and understand key metrics that determine business health such as ROI, ROE, debt-equity ratios, and profit margin
- produce budgets that align with organizational goals

- respond to financial questions from bankers, senior managers, and others concerning your financial plan

Faculty
John Zdanowicz, Professor
Department of Finance, Florida International University
Dr. Zdanowicz holds a PhD in finance from Michigan State University and is director of the Jerome Bain Real Estate Institute. Dr. Zdanowicz teaches courses in financial management and international trade analysis. He has more than 12 years of consulting experience in corporate finance, capital budgeting, and mergers and acquisitions.

Once you have registered, you will receive an email confirming your place in the program.
Registration and Withdrawal Policies
Payment Policy: Program fees are due in full upon acceptance into the program.
Substitution Policy: Qualified substitutes for participants can be accommodated with advance written notice.
Withdrawal Policy: Due to costs associated with establishing, holding, and replacing participant slots, the following guidelines will be implemented:
- 1 week prior the program: the participant will be charged 50% of the program fee.
- 2 - 4 weeks prior the program: the participant will be charged 25% of the program fee.
- The remainder of the above mentioned will be transferred to another program upon receipt of written notice.
