Overview

Many times, professionals are put in charge of critical projects with little more than a copy of Microsoft Project to guide them. FIU’s one-day course in project management covers the essentials of the project management process giving students a broad overview of the best methods and a framework for becoming a more effective project manager.

This one-day program is a valuable opportunity to become grounded in project management before your next “high stakes” project comes along. The procedures and guidelines you learn in this educational setting might make a critical difference in how you plan and manage your project when there’s much more at risk.

Highlights

This course provides you with the knowledge to build a better, more effective project plan and to manage through the project life cycle. It addresses the key processes associated with project management including requirements definition, schedules, risk management, and change control.

In classroom exercises, you will learn how to better define the  scope of a new project, develop a project plan, and identify the project’s critical path. You will sharpen your ability to estimate resource needs, schedule tasks, track project progress, and perform a post-project review.

Unique Features

This a one-day intensive for people who are facing new project management responsibilities and need to get up-to-speed quickly on basic project management tools and methods. The emphasis on effective planning using the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) system helps assure that the information is relevant to managers responsible for demanding projects. Project management professionals (PMP®) can earn PDUs (professional development units) by participating in this course.

The program covers:

  • means to develop and use time management charts
  • establishing a framework of relationship and time information
  • ways to create a work breakdown structure
  • methods to manage project costs
  • approaches to relationship management

Participants

The program is especially beneficial to anyone with new or existing project management responsibilities who needs a refresher course on project management or perhaps has not had prior formal training.
