The College’s Student Learning Center encourages and enables your learning, as students, so that you will succeed in your academic work. It gives you a self-directed learning environment that contains learning resources and instruction on learning techniques, methods, and processes. Additionally, the center will inspire you to engage in lifelong, self-directed business and general education as you move through life.
The center exists to help you develop effective learning practices specifically directed towards our business core courses and specific upper-level accounting and finance courses. It also will raise your awareness of the college’s Assurance of Learning Initiative and reinforce your ability to achieve the college’s undergraduate core and curriculum learning requirements. These requirements include competency in critical thinking and analysis, communication, globalization and multiculturalism, and information technology.
Programs and Services
The Student Learning Center is an academic resource available to business students fully admitted to the college. Offerings include practical workshops, self-directed learning style assessments and study templates, small group sessions, and individual consultation for business students who are experiencing academic difficulties.
Business course-related workshops will reinforce your understanding of class content by providing alternate study styles and various ways to review study materials effectively. These workshops also will provide you with feedback and additional assessment exercises. They will stimulate your learning through the additional questions raised from both your student peers and a learning facilitator.
In addition to class-related programs and services, the Student Learning Center arranges short, specialized workshops to students like you who want to learn to:
- manage and organize time more efficiently
- develop an individualized study plan
- improve and develop alternate study skills
- make better grades by using good test-taking strategies
- get writing assignments done in time
- make better use of technology
